The River House Restaurant is the main attraction on the bridge right now. I first hinted at this fun new spot in my previous post about Lula’s Southern Cookhouse. Self-described as “Midwest lake house x coastal smokehouse,” the River House delivers not just incredible food but a truly unique dining experience. Guests can dine 60 feet above the Kansas River, taking in the revitalized industrial scenery as boats and ducks pass by.

Food That Delights

The menu features the southern cookhouse flavors you’d expect, with standout seafood dishes like raw oysters, shrimp, and lobster rolls. Appetizers bring a playful twist—Pickle Chips and Curds are served with the restaurant’s own RIB sauce and ranch, and the Smoked Trout Dip with sourdough toast is a crowd favorite. Our group sampled the Bridge Burger, Buttered Lobster Roll, and the sharable Chicken on a Bridge. The latter arrives as a whole wood-fired, smoked chicken accompanied by a cucumber and onion salad and fries—enough to feed four people comfortably.

Drinks with a Twist

Drinks are equally impressive. The bar highlights a special tequila, Una Familia Rosado Tequila, brought to the project by Bradley Gilmore, Brittany Gilmore (of Lula’s Southern Cookhouse), and Andrew Miller (of Arthur Bryant’s and Guy’s Foods). I tried the “Rail and Fire”, a Paloma-inspired cocktail with grapefruit juice, jalapeño-infused honey syrup, fresh lime, and a Tajín chili-lime rim—served in a tin cup for that extra charm. A friend ordered the “Dragonfly Wings” cocktail, with Una Famillia Tequila, Elderflower Liquor, Dragon Fruit Syrup and Fresh Lime. My husband went with the “Bourbon on a Bridge,” made with local Reiger’s Bourbon, banana liqueur, Coca Lopez, and pineapple juice. Surprisingly tasty and a perfect complement to our meal.

Don’t Miss It

All in all, the River House offers a truly fun and unforgettable dining experience. As the space grows and the entertainment district develops, it’s only going to get better. The official opening is Wednesday, April 1, so don’t wait—make your reservations early to be among the first to experience this exciting new addition to Kansas City’s dining scene.
